Adding Sub-Inventory Accounts to the Chart of Accounts: Alternative Solutions for Inventory Account Branching

Clarification on the possibility of adding a secondary inventory account in the chart of accounts, as the inventory account cannot be automatically subdivided due to its connection to locations, but you can use the following alternative solution:

Alternative Solution:

  1. Add the Main Inventory Account:

    • Go to Chart of Accounts.
    • Click on Add Account next to Current Assets.
    • Select Account Type as “Inventory”.
    • Enter the Account Name (such as “Main Inventory”).
  2. Convert the Current Inventory Account to a Sub-account:

    • Click on Move next to the previously added inventory account.
    • Select the “Main Inventory” account to be the parent account.
    • You will then be able to convert this account to a sub-account within the new account.
  3. Add Other Warehouses:

    • You can add multiple sub-inventory accounts under “Main Inventory” naturally by following the same steps.

Additional Notes:

  • Ensure that the sub-accounts follow the correct structure.
