This article explains how to sell weighed products in Qoyod POS by scanning the scale label, so the quantity is filled in on the invoice automatically and the cashier never types the weight by hand.
What is this, and when do you need it?
Qoyod POS reads the labels printed by weighing scales and takes both the product and the weight from them. You need this in the following cases:
- You sell products by weight, such as meat, vegetables, fruit and baked goods.
- You want faster checkout at the counter and fewer quantity errors.
- You work on the Web with a barcode scanner, or on the Android app with a scanner or the phone camera.
See the release announcement for the other sales screen upgrades.
Before you start
- No new permission and no setting to switch on is needed, but the product barcode must be prepared as in the steps below.
- The scale label must follow this format: the first 7 digits identify the product, and the digits after them carry the weight or quantity, with up to 3 decimals. A label that embeds the price is not supported.
- The feature is available in Qoyod POS on the Web and on the Android app. On the Web it works with a barcode scanner, and on the app with a scanner or the phone camera.
Steps
Prepare the product
- Open the weighed product in Qoyod.
- Set its barcode equal to the 7-digit product code that the scale prints.
- Save the product.
Sell by scanning the scale label
- Open the New Invoice screen in POS.
- Scan the scale label with the barcode scanner, or with the phone camera on the app.
- The product is added to the invoice with the weight as its quantity.
- Complete the invoice as usual.
Fields
- Barcode: the 7-digit product code exactly as the scale prints it.
- Quantity: filled in automatically from the weight on the label, with up to 3 decimals.
Special cases
One barcode matches several products
A list titled “Choose the desired product” appears on the Web, and “Choose the product” on the app, so the cashier picks the right product from it.
A product sold in more than one unit
If the product has unit conversions, such as piece, box and carton, it can be sold in any of them. Each unit has its own price and barcode. On the Web the unit is picked on the product tile, and on the app in the line editor.
The requested quantity is higher than the stock
Qoyod checks the stock of a stock-tracked product before adding it, and warns the cashier when the requested quantity exceeds what is available. This check works on the Web.
Notes
- A label that embeds the price is not supported, so it must carry only the product code followed by the weight.
- The stock check covers only products that track quantity.

Frequently asked questions
Does Qoyod POS connect to the scale?
There is no direct connection between Qoyod POS and the scale. POS reads the label the scale prints when you scan it like any other barcode, so the product’s barcode in Qoyod only needs to equal the 7-digit product code the scale prints.
Which scale label format is supported?
The first 7 digits identify the product, and the digits after them carry the weight or quantity, with up to 3 decimals. A label that embeds the price is not supported.
Can I scan the scale label with the phone camera?
Yes, on the Android app, which works with a barcode scanner or the camera. On the Web a barcode scanner is required.
What happens if the barcode matches more than one product?
A list appears so the cashier picks the right product before it is added to the invoice.
