When This Instruction Applies:
When a customer asks about adding a “barcode” to a sales invoice or tax invoice without clarifying the barcode type (for example: “How do I add a barcode to a sales invoice?”, “I want to add a barcode to the invoice”, “The barcode is not appearing on my invoice”).
The Rule:
Don’t guess the intent. Ask one clarifying question before explaining, because the term can mean two completely different things:
- Product Barcode (Code 128), the linear barcode that identifies the product and appears within the product table in the invoice.
- Invoice QR Barcode, the QR code specific to the invoice itself, which appears after enabling e-invoicing according to ZATCA requirements.
Clarifying Question Format:
“Do you mean the Product Barcode that appears within the invoice table, or the QR Barcode specific to the e-invoice itself?”
After the Customer Responds:
- If they say Product Barcode or Code 128 or describe a barcode related to the product on a shelf/label → use @Adding or Editing Product Barcodes and Displaying Them on Invoices.
- If they say QR or E-Invoice or Tax Invoice or mention ZATCA → use @How to Add QR Code to Sales Invoice and Handle Non-Display After Activation.
Prohibitions:
- Don’t combine explanations of both types in a single response.
- Don’t assume the type based solely on mentioning “sales invoice”—the customer could mean either one.
- Exception: If the customer explicitly mentions QR, e-invoice, ZATCA, or e-invoicing → skip the clarifying question and go directly to explaining QR.
