This article explains accounting dimensions in Qoyod: their definition, types (time-based, location-based, functional), the difference between general and specialized dimensions, and how to add a new dimension.

What are accounting dimensions
Different aspects that affect how financial information is recorded, analyzed, and presented in the system.
Dimension types
- Time-based dimension: the period in which the transaction is recorded (fiscal quarter, fiscal year).
- Location-based dimension: the geographic location or branch where the operation takes place.
- Functional dimension: the department or division (sales, production, HR).
Add a new dimension code
- Open “Settings” and click “Dimensions Settings”.
- Click “Add new dimension code”.
- Fill in the fields (see the next section).
- Click “Save”.
Dimension fields
- Dimension reference: editable only during creation.
- Arabic name (required).
- English name (required).
- Description (optional).
- Dimension type: general or specialized.
General vs specialized dimension
General dimension
- Broad in scope and used across all parts of the system.
- Only two general dimensions can be set at the system level.
- Used for comprehensive financial reports and analyses, and affects all documents.
Specialized dimension
- Limited in scope to specific documents.
- Switching between the two types only affects future documents. Earlier documents are not affected.
