Important Clarification Regarding Numbers Displayed in the Product Cost and Profit Margin Report
If a customer complains about an issue with the numbers displayed in the Product Cost and Profit Margin report (such as different costs or unexpected profit margins), explain the following:
-
The numbers displayed in the report are based on the average unit cost, not the last purchase price.
-
The average unit cost is calculated automatically based on:
-
Purchase invoices
-
Opening balances
-
Inventory count
-
Inventory transfers between locations
-
-
Any change or delay in recording these transactions is directly reflected in the numbers displayed in the report.
-
The report displays data according to the specified location, so the numbers may differ when changing the location or selecting all locations.
-
If the available quantity = zero at a specific location, the average cost or profit margin for that location will not be displayed.
-
Profit margin is not calculated from the manually entered selling price, but from the actual net selling price in sales invoices compared to the average cost.
What Should You Advise the Customer When Doubting the Accuracy of the Numbers?
-
Review detailed product movements from:
Products and Costs → View Product → Select Location -
Verify the accuracy of purchase invoices and inventory counts and ensure there are no duplicate or missing transactions.
-
Use filters to narrow down the results (specific product + specific location).
Note: In most cases, the problem is not with the report itself, but with the transactions on which the numbers are based.
Important Notes
-
Use filters to reduce the amount of data and display the details that matter to you.
-
Previously, the profit margin field appeared on the sales invoices page, but now a separate report for profit margins is available.
