A restaurant running delivery, catering, and orders from external platforms is not well served by five fixed order types. We launched order type management in Q.Flavours, so an organization can define the types that match how it actually works, with independent rules per type applied automatically at order creation and at payment.
An order type is the attribute that defines how the order is served to the customer, such as dine-in, takeaway, or delivery. The system used to offer five fixed types that could not be edited or extended. Now you can create types that reflect your business, such as catering, corporate orders, or orders coming from external platforms, and edit or delete the default types.
Managing order types
We added a dedicated order types screen in settings, where each type is defined with an Arabic name, an English name, and an icon picked from the icon library. Any type can be edited or deleted at any time. Access to the screen is governed by an independent permission, so it does not appear to users who lack it.
Rules per order type
Each type carries its own set of rules:
- Additional fees as a fixed amount or a percentage.
- Allowed payment methods, with a default method pre-selected at payment and the option to lock it so the cashier cannot change it.
- The data that must be entered before the order can be completed.
- A mandatory external reference number entered at order creation.
These rules are read at the moment the order is created, so changing them later does not affect earlier orders.
Product pricing and availability per order type
A different price per item can be set by order type through two paths. The first is from the product page, where each option or modifier gets the target order type with a percentage or fixed value, and the resulting price appears before saving. The second is from the order types screen, where the type’s fees are directed at products and applied either to all items or to selected ones.
The value is added to the item price defined for the branch, and items with no value set keep their usual price.
Products can also be excluded from specific order types, so they do not appear in the cashier’s list for those types while staying available in others, as long as each product stays available for at least one order type. That is how a delivery menu differs from a dine-in menu without duplicating products in the catalog.
Order type fees in the cart and on the receipt
When an order type carries fees, they appear as a separate line item named after the type in the cashier’s cart, on the customer-facing display, and on the printed receipt, updating automatically with every change to the order. Fees are calculated on the device itself when the connection drops, so the customer sees the same value whether the device is online or not. The line cannot be edited or removed by the cashier.
Consistent display of order types
Order types appear with their defined names and icons across every screen: the cashier, order editing, the kitchen display, and the orders list. Each order keeps the type name as it was at creation, so renaming a type later does not change older orders.
